Natural Remedies

Quick Definition

An ancient medicinal herb (Withania somnifera) used in Ayurvedic medicine to reduce stress and anxiety.

In-Depth Explanation

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine. It has been used for over 3,000 years to relieve stress, increase energy, and improve concentration.

Modern research has shown ashwagandha may reduce cortisol levels by up to 30%, improve sleep quality, enhance athletic performance, and support cognitive function. Its active compounds, withanolides, are believed to be responsible for most of its therapeutic effects.

Typical dosages in clinical studies range from 300-600mg of root extract daily. While generally well-tolerated, it may interact with thyroid medications, immunosuppressants, and sedatives.
